Two currencies circulate simultaneously: the Cuban Peso and the US Dollar.

The first can be used to pay only at establishments, which offer services for the national population and thus cannot be used by a tourist.

At tourist facilities, shops, restaurants and hotels, the prices are in US dollars. For those bringing cash which is not the U.S. dollar, you will have to change your currency to U.S. dollars for use in Cuba. Rates of exchange at Cuban banks may be lower than those that you could obtain from your local bank.

MasterCard, Visa, CABAL and BFI credit cards are accepted in most establishments, if American banks have not issued them. Visa and Amex Traveller's checks are exchangeable in most banks.

For more detailed information, you can visit the Centro de Tarjetas de Crédito on 23rd Street, inside the Habana Libre Hotel, Vedado, Havana, telephone 33 4444 and fax 33 4001
